Lights camera action! This Is My Architecture…

Yesterday I took part in filming a “This Is My Architecture” session with Amazon Web Services (AWS).  These videos showcase innovative cloud architectures from customers and AWS partners like Inawisdom.  There’s 212 of them when I last checked.  I won’t give too much of a spoiler as to what I was talking to AWS Solution Architect Shafreen Sayyed about.  It related to machine learning unsurprisingly :). One thing that tickled me was that for the blackboard scribbling session there were no SageMaker icons we could use. I took that as a comforting indicator that we are working with the most cutting edge AWS services. You’ll have to wait for the video to be edited and published on YouTube to find out more…

It was fascinating to be involved in the actual recording process.  I was miked up, with marks on the floor to stand on, make up (yes…make up!) and speaking directly to a lifeless camera at some points. This is what the studio at SoundStage actually looked like…

Film Studio

Lots of kit, lots of cables, and a surprisingly large number of people.  I was particularly pleased to see that a clapperboard was used and that the director called “action!”.  It made me feel like I’d really got my 15 minutes of fame.  Of course, there’s a risk that my contribution is left on the cutting room floor, but overall it was a great life experience and loads of fun, not like real work at all!

Thanks to all my AWS and SoundStage hosts for the “This Is My Architecture” session, who looked after me and the other contributors so well.
